Q: How did Curiosity Chronicles get started?
A: Curiosity Chronicles was created when author Vivian Meyers, while homeschooling her own children, noticed a lack of history curriculum written for neurodivergent children that covered history from different perspectives, was factual, and engaging for all learners. Teaching collegiate history at the time, she decided to use her extensive knowledge and educational background to develop a unique history curriculum that reads as a dialogue between two characters.
Q: What makes Curiosity Chronicles stand out from other curricula?
A: Curiosity Chronicles was written intentionally to be a secular, inclusive, global world history program. It is not written from a religious worldview and strives to represent the history of people all around the world. In addition, Curiosity Chronicles is interdisciplinary, tying in culture, world religions, math, philosophy, and much more.
As Vivian sat down to write the text, she realized that a typical narrative story arc model did not lend itself to the multi-faceted, complex, reality of how history works. Instead, she decided to write the text as dialog between two characters, Ted and Mona, as they discover history, ask questions, and make connections and observations.
Q: How does Curiosity Chronicles work?
A: Curiosity Chronicles is written chronologically with the idea that the younger students will start with Ancient History and work through Medieval History, Early Modern History, and Modern History as they progress through the grade levels. It is very doable, however, for families to have their children of various ages go through the same period in history and modify the assignments.
Each major time period has various items you can purchase:
Core text that contains full-color designs, timelines, maps, paintings, etc.
Instructors Guide that contains supplemental reading suggestions, hands-on activities, vocabulary, timeline and map work instructions, review materials, and answer keys. A unique and fun component of this curriculum is the Minecraft Building Prompt found with each lesson. Students love using these prompts to build historic locations
